Asbestos tiles is found in many older facilities and buildings yet still performing to date. Servicing this tile is quite unique and proper care and finishing with today’s technologically advanced chemistry can be challenging. Knowing how to care for vinyl asbestos tile is extremely important since a simple mistake of grabbing the wrong chemical off the shelf can cause disaster and easily happen if not properly trained or informed on the “how to” care procedures.

Vinyl asbestos tiling can be identified by dimensional size. Most vinyl asbestos is measured 8” x 8” or 9” x 9” individual squares. This tile is typically found in older facilities such as inner city churches, businesses and schools. And in most cases, is in desperate need of floor stripping and refinishing.

Since this asbestos tile was treated and maintained for most of its life with yesterday’s protection and maintenance cleaners, it is pertinent to take extreme caution while servicing this surface. Such an example is the carnauba wax used years ago for protection. While old-school, this much softer wax was and still is very difficult to remove.
